So…I call Intuit to see if I can get a discounted price for upgrading to Quickbooks. I currently have QB Pro 2008. All logic would suggest that me being a good customer and they wanting my continued business and loyalty to their great product, that they would have a discounted price for an upgrade. So I call Intuit, talke to somebody who voraciously asked me alot of questions, forwarded me on to somebody else, and I get disconnected somehow. Ok ok that’s no big deal, that stuff happens. So I call again, same voracious quiestions: “who are you?”, “what is the problem?”, and “how often do you use Quickbooks in the evening while watching House?” (ok not really). So I finally talk to a “software advisor”, who proceeds to tell me that I am getting a HUGE discount as a great QB customer: from $229 to $199. What? I can get it for that price on Amazon with free shipping, AND I can get it on the QB website for $183 with $9.95 shipping. Tell me HOW IS THAT A DISCOUNT!? I proceeded to argue with the “software advisor” about that not being a discount. Amazing.
Other people think Intuit sucks, too!
I found a great article by WordsmithBob about his frustrations with Intuit. You can visit his website by going here WordsmithBob. Read on:
QuickBooks Or Rather Intuit Sucks
In case you missed that first part, let me repeat it. Intuit Sucks. Allow me to explain.
I bought 2008 QuickBooks Pro and installed it. It opens fine, it does what it’s supposed to do. And then I click on the “close” button and it just sits there on my screen. It refuses to close.
So I have to open up my Task Manager, find the QuickBooks .exe file, and shut it down.
Now, I know a bit about computers. I know that the problem is probably a conflict of some sort with a driver on my computer. It’s probably not Intuit’s fault.
However, I went online to their web site and couldn’t find an answer. No big deal. The big deal was that there’s no way to get help from them without paying them $79 up front.
All I wanted them to do is help me get their product working properly on my computer. I even called the corporate office. The receptionist told me the same thing. You can’t get technical help until you pay $79.
Only a software company would have that level of arrogance. We’re so big, we’re so dominant, we just don’t give a damn about you. Pay us up front to help you or go screw yourself.
Imagine if I told all my clients, you can’t call me for help or answers unless you pay first with your credit card. Then we’ll talk. I’d be living under a bridge in a cardboard box inside a month.
I just looked online. The average price I saw for intuit’s QuickBooks Pro 2008 was $130. So the $79 fee is 60 percent of the price I paid for QuickBooks Pro 2008.
Imagine if you went to your car dealership a week after you bought the car and said, “the car has a slight problem. The engine doesn’t want to shut down and I have to pull the cable to the battery to shut it off.” Then imagine the service person says, “Fine. Pay us sixty percent of the cars original price and then we’ll look at it.”
“Let’s see, I paid $17,000 for the car last week so you want $10,200 to look under the hood. Hmmm…I’ll just put that on my credit card.”
Did I mention that Intuit Sucks?
Open source cloud-based accounting software?
In response to Jamison’s comment on the previous post, I am asking everybody…is there any open source cloud-based acconting software available, or does anybody know of it’s future developement. This would be a game changer if it was available. I’d donate to the cause. Open Office is a sweet, FREE alternative to Microsoft Office, but it isn’t cloud-based. Google has an awesome suite of free apps available that tie in to your g-mail account, and Microsoft is slowly cominging on board to the cloud game. It would be great if one of these companies created a cloudbases accounting app. That would rock! Say bye-bye to Quickbooks and Peachtree! Personally, I think it’s only a matter of time.
Welcome to the site!
Hello, my name is Jamison, I’m a small business owner here in the U.S.A. I created this site because of my extereme frustration with the big accounting software makers namely Quickbooks, which I use, and Peachtree, which uses the same shenanigans as quickbooks. Perhaps I’m just unaware as to the reasons why they pull so many shenanigans, but for now, this page is set up for me and others to vent, and maybe, just maybe Intuit and Sage would cut the B.S. and help us all run better, more efficient businesses!
So if you would, I’d love for you stories of annoyance and disenchantment with Intuit’s Quickbooks and Sage’s Peachtree products! I’ll start: My NUMBER ONE issue is that I need to “upgrade” every three years just to do online banking. Apparently, they no longer “support” versions older than 3 years. WHY? Accounting doesn’t exactly change a whole lot. I mean the tax code, yes, but accounting!!!? Last time I checked, I still label “receivables” as “receivables” and such. Ok, so even if we have to upgrade every 3 years, why the crap do we have to pay full price again? I mean, we already baught your product, why not give us incentive to use you again? I probably wouldn’t have even created this blog if the “upgrade” price was like $10. Come on, Intuit!
